Healthy Living

Change for life 3 boys

Change4Life is a nationwide movement designed to help people make changes to their lifestyles, so that they can eat well, move more and live longer.

Freestyle Soccer Academy are proud to be a supporter of the Chane4Life movement and to encourage the children that see our coaches/teachers as role models, to Eat well, Move more and Live longer.

These days, 'modern life' can mean that we're a lot less active. With so many opportunities to watch TV or play computer games, and with so much convenience and fast food available, we don't move about as much, or eat as well as we used to. Which means that 9 out of 10 children today could grow up with dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies. This can cause life-threatening diseases - so it’s really important that we do something about it. Our bodies weren’t designed to sit down all the time – they need to walk, jump, run and move to be healthy, grow properly and use up the right amount of energy.

Simply being up, about and moving burns calories and helps fend off diseases. Being active will raise children’s heartbeats and help pump blood around their bodies. It’s like a mini workout for their lungs and muscles!

A good dose of fresh air and exercise will also help us all sleep better. So keeping children active will help them get a good night’s sleep and make them feel more alert for the next day.

As a company we strongly believe that we can help with this and use our position as role models. We deliver school assemblies on the benefits of eating your 5 a day, the huge importance of being active and why to make the Change4Life.
Coach Talking 2
Some children just don't think fruit and veg is fun. Well, these fruit and veg facts may just prove them wrong and may even tempt them to try a few new things……

Carrots used to be purple
True, until the sixteenth century when farmers in Holland started to plant orange crops in honour of the Dutch hero – William of Orange.

Apple stars
If you cut an apple in half the other way (sideways, not down the core) you'll see a star shape in the middle.

Flower power
Broccoli and cauliflower are vegetables, but they're also actually flowers!

Fruit soup anyone?
Did you know tomatoes aren't really a vegetable? They're actually a fruit because they have seeds in the middle.

Have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses?
No? That's because carrots are packed full of vitamin A, which is important for eye-health and helps you see in dim light.
